The Healthy Living In My Community Project connects mapping, healthy living education and storytelling. The project, which first began as part of the Working Together to Achieve Healthier Lifestyles in Yukon and Northwest Territories' Communities Project in 2013 has evolved to include: two online inventory mapping tools, a cross-curricular unit package for Yukon Schools and a story mapping component.
Maps - The Healthy Living Inventories compiles information on healthy eating and active living programs among other healthy living programs (such as mental health, cultural activities, youth leadership, career exploration, and sexual health [in Yukon only]) in communities in Yukon and Northwest territories for the years 2016 and 2014. These maps will help program coordinators, recreation leaders, NGO's, funders, governments, and the general public, among others, to access information about the healthy initiatives going on in their communities and strengthen opportunity for collaboration, knowledge sharing and evaluation.
Unit Package - The Healthy Living in My Community project is a unit created for teachers, which builds off of the healthy living inventory map and connects youth with the topic of healthy living and programs in their communities, through mapping, storytelling and hands-on experiential learning.
Story Mapping - A story map is a creative way to tell stories about our world using maps and other media. Story maps give life to mapping data and are a way to celebrate community stories.
