Exploring community assets & Impacts of Climate cHange on traditional and local diet

As part of the Linking a Changing Climate with a Changing Traditional Diet project we reviewed the literature on the impacts of climate change on traditional and local food consumption and identified strengths and challenges in our food system and climate change activities. The overarching goal of this project is about characterizing food systems as a means for climate change adaptation, mobilizing existing knowledge as well as highlighting promising initiatives in order to inform policy and program development and inspire community action.

Community-based climate change assessment toolkit

As part of the Yukon Indigenous Community Climate Change Champions (YIC4) project, a youth toolkit was developed to outline steps for conducting a community-based assessment of climate change opportunities and priorities in First Nations communities.

Community climate change assessment reports

In 2018, youth from Mayo, Atlin, Carcross, and Ross River communities worked with ACIBR to complete a community-based assessment of knowledge, attitudes and perspectives on climate change; they spoke with Elders, key members of the community and various representatives within their First Nation offices to explore notable climate changes and adaptation needs related to five key themes: Food and Water Security; Health, Social and Culture; Infrastructure and Transportation; Economy; and Habitat and Species Areas.
