Education and Training Tools
Teacher Unit: HEalthy Living in my community
The Healthy Living in My Community Project connects students grades 5-10 to mapping, healthy living education and storytelling. The project, which first began as part of the Working Together to Achieve Healthier Lifestyles in Yukon and Northwest Territories' Communities Project in 2013 has evolved to include: two online inventory mapping tools (for Yukon and NWT-2016), a cross-curricular unit package for Yukon Schools (2018) and a story mapping (2018) component.
Youth Climate Change Training Curriculum
The curriculum focuses on building a strong foundation of Indigenous and scientific knowledge about the causes and effects of and adaptation strategies for climate change from global to local perspectives. The training is designed in two phases with the first laying the foundation of climate change adaptation and community-based research and the second focusing on building leadership, advocacy and communication skills. Youth are also guided through the process of developing a climate action project idea and mini proposal for their communities to implement.
Do it yourself: Diabetes Manual
The development of this interactive, visual manual was part of an effort to delay and hopefully prevent Type 2 Diabetes in Yukon. It is targeted to front-line health workers and encourages experiencing, reflecting, thinking, and doing as an educational process. This manual is the collection of many diabetes prevention activities ready to be used in Yukon communities.
